In 1985, the Jack Russell Terrier Association of America was founded. The club’s breed standard reflected Heinmann’s breed standard from 1904. Then in 1990, England’s Kennel Club recognized the Parson Jack Russell terrier as a variant of the fox terrier and adopted a 14-inch standard for the breed.. The new club stated as its aim the promotion of the “genuine Jack Russell”. The Breed was formally recognised by The Kennel Club in 1990 as the Parson Jack Russell Terrier. However, in 1999, the breed name was changed to the Parson Russell Terrier to differentiate the two breeds. The Parson Russell is now well established in the show ring.

Personality. The Parson Russell Terrier is a friendly, affectionate and enthusiastic little dog with personality by the bucket-load. Active, intelligent and independent, the ‘PRT’ will thrive with lots of fun, training and activities but if left bored may become barky and destructive. They have a strong hunting instinct and are agile enough.. The pedigree of the Parson Russell Terrier includes the Jack Russell Terriers of the 19th century, but many people also suggest that the modern breed has included ancestors like the Welsh Corgi (which is a smaller dog and could explain the modern breed’s stable, but small, size). It’s hard to say precisely how far back this lineage goes.
